Much of this land was once a limestone quarry run by Texas Crushed Stone, which moved north in 1958. The Austin Corporation, founded by brothers David and Edward Barrow, developed the roughly 2,000 acres one section at a time, an approach that was ahead of its era and still shows in how the streets follow the land. Most homes date from the 1960s and 1970s: single-story ranches, two-story traditionals and a scattering of mid-century moderns with walls of glass facing the canopy. Lots on the hillsides can be steep, so it's worth knowing how a home handles drainage and foundation before you fall for the view.
The Barrow Nature Preserve protects seven acres along Bull Creek, including a spring that runs year-round, and the Bull Creek greenbelt is minutes away. Far West Boulevard and Spicewood Springs Road hold the neighborhood's coffee shops, grocery stores and casual restaurants. Doss and Hill elementary schools, Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School serve the area.
